Gardening: what’s it all about ?
Gardening is one of those activities that many people shy away from. I think some people associate as a past time for older people or one that’s quite boring. I have known many people over the years who just will not have anything to do with their garden, cutting the grass is as far as it goes and even then it’s a chore.
So this is a shout out to all the anti gardeners out there, I urge you to get out in your garden because I promise with a bit of time your gonna love it and the health benefits it will bring. For some it becomes more than a hobby and almost a way of life (if you get bitten by the gardening bug!) We all have to start somewhere, and if you have been thinking about getting out in your garden then follow these basic tips to get you started.
Reap what you sow with a vegetable garden
So first things first, gardening doesn’t have to be expensive, you can spend as little or as much as your budget will allow. Don’t let cost put you off. Check out your local garden centres, they will have various offers on plants and tools to suit all budgets.
A lot of high street shops and supermarkets sell plants, seeds, pots and tools which are usually cheaper, so depending on the quality your after and your budget you can easily pick things up to make some changes to that outdoor space of yours.
If you start to grow your own fruit and vegetable garden you could save a fortune on shopping bills down the line as they grow season to season…… but thats another post entirely 🙂

If you are just starting out, a good multipurpose compost can be ideal. Part fill your pots and containers with old bricks or any other material that will act as drainage. Fill the rest of the pot with compost and your ready to start planting.
Bedding plants are easy to start out with and there is always a wide range available at your local garden centre. Or you could try a pack of seeds or bulbs, just read the back of the packet for the basic instructions.
Then you can sit back and watch your garden grow. Once you start to see results you will be surprised at how quickly the garden bug can bite. You can then venture further into the gardening world and try something new.
